BEST PRACTICE: Use Custom Reporting Labels on Forms and Surveys

When you’re setting up a form or survey, including an event registration form, you can add a custom report label for any item. When you run a report on the form results, the custom label will be used as the column header instead of the question text. This improvement allows you to display meaningful question text to your visitors and generate reports that contain a reasonably sized column header.

In this example, no custom reporting label was entered, and the complete text of the question is displayed in the report column header:

In this example, the Reporting Label field was used to create a short label for the same column:

You can use this feature on existing forms as well as new ones. To add a custom report label to a form or survey item, follow these steps:

  1. Create or edit an item.
  2. Enter the Question Text and any other information for the item.
  3. In the Reporting Label field at the bottom of the page, enter a short but meaningful name to use as the column header for this item in a report.
  4. At the bottom of the page, click Add Item.
